Choosing Seeds – The Bigger The Choice The Harder To Choose
Jetzt ist es wieder soweit. Die Kataloge flattern ins Haus und erinnern mich, dass ich dieses Jahr mal etwas zeitiger an die Bestellung gehen wollte, nicht erst, wenn das Beste schon ausverkauft ist und viele schon am aussäen sind.
Aber es ist jedes Jahr das gleiche, es fällt mir so schwer mich zu entscheiden.
-Mutig fange ich an,
-setzte bunte Klebstreifen in die Seiten,
-mache Listen,
-fange an zu rechnen,
-schmeiße raus,
-entdecke wieder neues,
-durchforste mein Hängeregister mit Hunderten von Samen,
-was muss da raus, ist überaltert, keimte nicht,
-wo ist meine Liste vom Sommer, wo draufsteht was ich unbedingt haben will? Ich habe sie natürlich nie gemacht.
Das geht endlos so weiter.
Dann ist es März und ich habe noch nichts bestellt, ich werde hektisch, bestelle alles, was vorher markiert war und noch mehr, was gerade so gut aussieht.
Renne zum Raiffeisenmarkt, kaufe Samen, ich brauche gleich was, ich muss anfangen.
Die ersten Pakete treffen ein, ich verliere den Überblick, was habe ich da denn bestellt?
Dann tritt Ruhe ein, ich besinne mich und probiere Systematik walten zu lassen, ein paar 2-Jährige habe ich natürlich vergessen schon im letzten Jahr zu ziehen, aber das mache ich dann dieses Jahr.
Man muss spontan sein, das bin ich, und so sieht mein Garten jedes Jahr wieder erfrischend anders aus.

The chaos has a name: Deciding on seeds for the this year´s season.
The time has started; the first gardening and seed catalogs are coming in by mail and remind me that this year I should order them in time and not when all the good stuff is gone and I should be sowing already.
But every year the same: I just can´t decide what I want.
Encouraged I start,
Filling the catalogs with post-its,
Creating lists,
Start calculating,
Getting rid off stuff,
Finding new ones,
Go thru my filing cabinet with hundred of species,
Which of them are too old already?
Where is my list from last summer with those plants that I want for sure? Of course I didn’t make such a list.
This goes on and on.
March is approaching fast and I haven´t ordered anything yet. I get hectic, order everything I marked and other things that look appealing. Running to my local farmers store, buying seeds. I gotta have some right away, can´t wait.
The first packages arrive, I get lost in ‚em…. What all did I order?
Then I´ll calm down, trying to solve the problem methodical. Of course I forgot to sow a couple of the biennial ones last year, but I´ll be doing it this season.
You gotta be spontaneous; I am spontaneous and thus my garden looks refreshingly different each year.
